Fantastic Beasts 3 is officially titled The Secrets of Dumbledore. Warner Bros confirmed the film's title and announced that its release date will hit the theaters on April 15, 2022, which is earlier than its previous July 15 slot.
David Yates returns to direct The Secrets of Dumbledore and star Eddie Redmayne as creature-obsessed wizard Newt Scamander just like the previous two Fantastic Beast films. The new thing about this film is that Mads Mikkelsen will take over the villainous role of Gellert Grindelwald from Johnny Depp.
This film is a prequel set several decades before the advent of Harry, Ron, and Hermione in Harry Potter. Centers on magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a confidant of young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), in the wake of Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen). Grindelwald is an essential character in Fantastic Beasts who was Dumbledore's best friend but later became an enemy.
Here's the official prologue:
"Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches, and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald's growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?"
