Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati will add the function of the Population Identification Number (NIK) or KTP as a Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) for individual taxpayers. This is stated in the RUU KUP, which is currently being changed to the Harmonization of Tax Regulations Bill (RUU HPP). The RUU HPP is approved by the Indonesian House of Representatives, but it has not yet been ratified.
In the RUU HPP obtained by CNNIndonesia.com, the rule is contained in Chapter II Article 2. The article states that every taxpayer who has completed the subjective and objective requirements following the tax laws and regulations provisions must register at the office of the Directorate General of Taxes whose work area includes the place of work or domicile of the taxpayer and get a Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP).
According to Sri Mulyani in the CNBCIndonesia.com article, this bill also came at the right time. This bill was formed to increase sustainable economic growth that is inclusive while supporting the acceleration of economic recovery and optimizing state revenues.
Sri Mulyani said this policy would expand the tax base as a critical factor in optimizing tax revenue by re-arranging individual and corporate income tax rates. Then the appointment of other parties to withhold, collect, deposit, and/or report taxes, rearrange VAT facilities, increase VAT rates, implement carbon taxes, and change the mechanism for adding or subtracting types of excisable goods, according to Detik.com.
