Netflix will release the long-awaited Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area on June 24, 2022. The 6 episode series is a remake of Spain's beloved crime series La casa de Papel (Money Heist)

In a press conference on Wednesday (22/6), the Korean version will follow a hostage and robbery operation carried out by a group of robbers who takes action around the Korean peninsula unification. The series is directed by Kim Hong-sun and written by Ryu Yong-jae in collaboration with Kim Hwan-chae and Choe Sung-jun. Actors such as Yoo Ji-tae, Kim Yunjin, Park Hae-soo, Jun Jong-seo, Lee Won-jong, Park Myung-hoon, Kim Sung-o, Kim Ji-hun, Jang Yoon-ju, Lee Joobeen, Lee Hyun-woo, Kim Ji-hoon, Lee Kyu-ho joins as main cast.

Writer Ryu Yong-jae said, "I added depth to the characters through in-depth interviews with the actors," adding, “We talked a lot to find out what made each character so desperate to survive,” he added “I wanted to spark curiosity from the characters’ hidden pasts”. The actors added, “I first thought the story would focus on how to steal and escape, but it was so much more than that,” said Kim Seong-o. “The clash between characters and its depiction was amazing,” said Lee Hyun-woo, expressing his amazement with the rich ensemble acting.

Netflix has enjoyed great success with its Korean dramas such as Squid Game and Kingdom. This series is expected to follow suit as a culturally significant piece of cinema, especially as it is based on the already popular Money Heist.

“I hope for the franchise of La Casa del Papel to set an example of an exciting collaboration that can expand its scope to Asian and K-drama fans," writer Ryu Yong-jae said.
