Jokowi Has Filed An Appeal Against The Decision Of The Central Jakarta District Court Regarding Air Pollution In Jakarta.
October 3, 2021

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has filed an appeal against the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court regarding air pollution in Jakarta. Previously, the Central Jakarta District Panel granted the Koalisi Ibu Kota's lawsuit related to air pollution and sentenced the defendants to be guilty of air pollution in Jakarta on September 16, 2021. The defendants, in this case, are President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), the Minister of Environment and Forestry, the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Health, and the Governor of DKI Jakarta. The panel of judges sentenced the defendants to take steps to improve air quality in Jakarta.

According to Kompas.com, the Plaintiff's Attorney, Ayu Eza, in a virtual discussion on Friday (1/10), said that the appeal was made by Jokowi on Thursday (30/9), precisely on the last day of the appeal period.
"It is confirmed that the President and his ministers have officially stated that they are appealing and have filled out an appeal form," said Ayu Eza, quoted from Kompas.com.

The plaintiffs, in this case, were disappointed with the central government's decision to appeal.
"We are disappointed because this is like a win-lose affair, even though this is the government's obligation to provide clean air for all Jakarta residents," said Adhito Harinugroho, one of the plaintiffs in the Kompas.com article.

In contrast to Jokowi and the ministers, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated that he would not file an appeal. Anies said he would carry out the court's decision.
