Indonesia Is Ranked 5th as The Country Causing The Climate Crisis.
October 9, 2021

Research by Carbon Brief, a UK-based climate research institute, recently released its report on the accumulation of carbon emissions from various countries from 1850 to 2021. In that report, Indonesia is ranked fifth as a carbon-emitting country responsible for carbon emissions that cause the climate crisis. The entire population now have used 85% of the 'ratio' of CO2 to keep the earth's temperature below 1.5 degrees Celsius with only a 50% chance of being saved.

The data shows that as much as 2,500 billion tons of CO2 have been released into the air, which impacts increasing the earth's temperature by 1.2 degrees Celsius since 1850. Of the total CO2 that humans have released in that period, the United States is the number one country that causes climate crisis with 20% of total emissions—followed by China 11%, Russia 7%, Brazil 5%, and Indonesia 4%.

Data From Carbon Brief.

In their latest research, the Carbon Brief includes the emission variables caused by forest destruction and other land-use changes for the first time. This has caused Indonesia and Brazil in the top ranks due to the many processes of deforestation.
