Lays, Doritos, and Cheetos will stop production on August 18, 2021. The three brands stopped production due to the license agreement expiration of PT Indofood Fitolay Makmur (IFL) with PepsiCo Fritolay. PepsiCo has also approved the sale of minority shares owned by IFL to PT Indofood CBP. This agreement also ends the partnership between the two parties. After August 18, PT. IFL will stop the production, packaging, marketing, sales, and distribution of snack food products under the PepsiCo brand in Indonesia.
This production stoppage is very saddening news for the Indonesian people who are used to being accompanied by these brands. These snacks are often complementary when watching movies, working, or spending time with loved ones. But along with the last days with these snacks, rumors arise that can slightly calm the public.
There are rumors that after August 18, 2021, PT Indofood Fritolay Makmur (IFL) will replace the Cheetos, Lays, and Doritos brands. Doritos will change its name to Maxicorn, Lay’s to Chitato Lite, and Cheetos to Chiki Twist. To find out more, Asumsi.co tried to find the brand name through the Jumbomark.com website, a registered brand search site in Indonesia. The results of Asumsi.co’s research through Jumbomark, Chitato Lite is registered in class 30 with IN PROCESS status on behalf of PT. Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk. Likewise with Chiki Twist and Maxicorn.
This rumor prompted a response from Axton Salim as director of PT Indofood, who stated that he and his team promised not to leave and will provide innovations through his Instagram.
