Research Found That Marriage Is Likely To Be Longer With Low Wedding Budget.
November 8, 2021

A 2015 research titled "A DIAMOND IS FOREVER" AND OTHER FAIRY TALES: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WEDDING EXPENSES AND MARRIAGE DURATION" evaluates the association between wedding spending and marriage duration. The research uses data from a survey of more than 3,000 ever-married persons in the United States. This research was done by economics professors Andrew Francis-Tan and Hugo M Mialon.

The researchers uncovered that the more money spent, the more likely it was for the couple to divorce - especially once the wedding ring cost reached more than $2,000 (~IDR 28,646,000.00).

However, even though rings and weddings can impact marriage duration negatively, the researchers found that going on a honeymoon is "significantly associated with a lower hazard of divorce."

The results of this research show that the period of the wedding party is inversely proportional to the expenditure of the wedding ceremony and even the engagement ring.

Simply put, with a minimal budget, the marriage is likely to be more durable.
