The Great Dictionary of Indonesian Language (KBBI) had included "oppa" in its entry.
The word is originated in Korean Language, and has been widely used in Indonesia following the craze for South Korean pop culture.
The entry was added in the Dictionary in April 2021. Besides "oppa", the Dictionary also include other Korean-originated words widely used in Indonesia such as Gocujang, Bulgogi, Bibimbap, Manhwa and Kimci.
The Indonesian language is actively developed by absorbing words from other languages. Many words in the Indonesian vocabulary are originated in Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese, and Arabic, all cultures that historically brought great significance to the life in the archipelago.
