In their latest effort to promote cannabis as a cash crop, the Thai government plans to distribute one million free cannabis plants to households across the country in June.
Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the government encourages Thai citizens to grow cannabis as household corps, but the plants should be of medical grade and cannot be used for commercial purposes without further license.
Thailand has become the first country in the region to decriminalize cannabis. It is reported that drinks and cosmetic companies have developed CBD infused products after the government greenlit the legal use of the plant.
It is expected that the kingdom can generate more than 10 billion baht (around Rp 4 trillion) per year in revenue from the marijuana products.
