Marvel Cinematic Universe introduces its first Muslim superhero with the upcoming Ms. Marvel. The television miniseries is based on the Marvel Comics character, Kamala Khan. The show, created by Bisha K. Ali, is confirmed to air on streaming platform Disney+ starting June 8 this year.
Pakistani-Canadian actress Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, a teenager who idolizes Carol Denvers AKA Captain Marvel, and eventually gains her own superhuman power. Actors Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, and Matt Lintz also joined the cast. Filming began in early November 2020, with shooting in Atlanta, Georgia, and New Jersey, before concluding in Thailand in May 2021. The six-episode miniseries will serve as a set-up for the film The Marvels (2023).
