The Indonesian badminton team has decided to withdraw from the 2021 BWF World Championship or the 2021 World Championship due to the erratic spread of the new variant of Omicron COVID-19 virus. PBSI has decided to withdraw from the 2021 World Championships to maintain the athletes' health and safety.
The decision to resign was taken by the General Chairperson of PP PBSI Agung Firman Sampurna after receiving input from the management, trainers, and the Head of Binpres.
PBSI was originally scheduled to send 13 representatives to the 2021 World Championships.
In the men's doubles, there are Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, Fajar Alfian/Muh. Rian Ardianto, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin. Meanwhile, in the women's doubles, there are Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu and mixed doubles Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti, Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari, and Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.
In the men's singles, there were Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonatan Christie, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and Ruselli Hartawan.
With this resignation, the agenda for the Indonesian badminton national training team in 2021 has been completed. Furthermore, they will focus on next year's competitions.
