Finland’s Prime Minister Was Being Caught Partying after She Had Just Been In Contact With Someone Positive for COVID-19.
December 10, 2021

Finland's Prime Minister, Sanna Marin, apologized after drawing criticism for being caught partying in a nightclub, even though she had just been in contact with one of the ministers identified as positive for Covid-19. Marin immediately became a concern when one of the gossip magazines uploaded her photo while partying until 04.00 local times.

Through a long post on her official Facebook account, Marin explained the chronology until she was able to spend last Sunday night at one of the nightclubs in Helsinki, a few hours after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pekka Haavisto, was detected as infected with the coronavirus.

However, according to The New York Times, she did not violate the country's public health rules, as Finland does not require vaccinated people to quarantine. Marin said she did not need to isolate because she had been fully vaccinated even there was a text message advising her to avoid social contact, but it was sent to her work phone, which she had left at home that night. After seeing the text on Sunday, she did a Covid test, and the result returned negative.

Finland is one of the countries with the lowest corona infection rate in Europe. They reported 196,000 cases with 1,384 deaths during the pandemic, while Finland's overall population stood at 5.5 million. However, the number of Covid-19 cases in Finland is currently high. They even reported a record 308 cases per 100,000 people last week. Finland has also detected eight cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, quoting from CNN.
