Belgian civil servants will be allowed not to answer work-related texts and calls outside of working hours. Federal employees will have the 'right to disconnect' under the new law starting February 1, 2022.
According to Dailymail, staff may only be contacted 'in the event of exceptional and unforeseen circumstances requiring action that cannot wait until the next working period.'
This new regulation is expected to help fight 'excessive work stress and burnout.' It is expected the rule will be rolled out to the private sector. The Belgian government is also considering moving to a four-day working week to improve a 'culture change' in the Belgian business.
